The Dive from Clausen's Pier

Over the summer I read the book The Dive from Clausen's Pier. In this novel, the main character, Carrie Bell is faced with an incredibly tough decision regarding her fiance. Recently after diving off a pier, Mike becomes a quadriplegic. Carrie Bell is faced with, the theme, following her head, telling her that she is obligated to stay, and her heart, telling her to leave and "start" her life again somewhere else. As Carrie follows what feels right she is constantly questioned with this choice. In the end the decision she makes truly shows Carrie Bell finally following what she really feels is right. A part of the text that shows this best is when Carrie Bell is faced with the choice of leaving Mike to start a new life or choosing to stay with Mike due to her feeling of obligation.
Below a link is listed to an article written in a different point of view about this book. It discusses some of the feelings Carrie Bell deals with during the book and how what she choses to do about her fiance.
